5 Ways to Make Flying and Airport Security Easier

Posted by Sasha W. on

It’s no secret that big adventures often start at the airport. While navigating long lines, security checks, and the potential for delays can feel like a hassle, with preparation and a bit of luck, you’ll be on your way to your destination in no time.

As frequent flyers ourselves, the team at Arcade put together a guide to 5 tips to make flying and airport security a little easier. Let’s dive in.

1. Get the App

Instead of relying on paper tickets, download your airline’s mobile app before heading to the airport. Using the app, you’ll be able to check in 24 hours before your flight, get updates on delays and boarding, and much more – allowing for your adventure to be more efficient from the start.

2. Pack Less

When exploring the backcountry, you’d never pack more than you need. Well, the same is true when it comes to air travel. Packing minimally not only makes carrying your luggage easier, but simplifies your airport experience as well. We recommend trying to fit everything you need in a carry-on, avoiding luggage delays or loss and long lines at the baggage carousel.

3. Skip the Bottle

While we all know that staying hydrated is important during air travel, carrying a water bottle through airport security can be more trouble than it's worth. We recommend skipping the water bottle until you've passed through security checks to avoid having to dump it at security, and keeping your bags lighter.

4. Wheels Aren't Always the Future

While wheeled luggage might feel convenient at times, we’ve found that there are situations where a backpack or duffle is much more practical. In the confined spaces of an airplane, for instance, fitting your bag into overhead compartments can be challenging with a bulky suitcase. Choosing a smaller bag that you can carry on your back allows for easier movement through the airport and on the plane.

5. Travel Belt

With long lines and security requirements, removing clothing items at airport security is always a hassle. That’s why we recommend investing in a non metal belt for airport security that doesn’t need to be removed through security checks – making your experience through TSA smoother.

At Arcade, we’re proud of our mission to make belts better. In our opinion, this means lightweight, plastic belts that don’t restrict your movement – while keeping your pants secure. While we chose to build our belts with a durable plastic buckle because of its increased ability to perform, they’re TSA friendly, too, meaning that when it comes to airport security, there’s one less item to juggle: your belt.
